KurokoXOC!: The One I Love [PART 1]

(A/N): bold= they’re talking in english

italics = someone is thinking, emphasis on a word, or there’s a sound (ex.: Bang!)

Sorry for the long (A/N)! Enjoy!

Kuroko sighed. He leaned his head into the palm of his left hand as his gaze slid down to his desk.

After a month into his second year of high school, he felt like something was missing in his life. There was a tugging at his heart to find something fulfilling, something that would bring meaning to his life. Kuroko had tried everything. Hanging out with his old basketball team, the Generation of Miracles, hadn't worked. Training with Seirin's basketball team hadn’t worked either. Not even the thrillingly complex plots of his mystery novels could fill the gaping void in his soul. He didn't know what to do. Nothing was working, and he was beginning to think that nothing ever would.

Kuroko's sky-blue eyes fluttered. The soul searching was taking away a lot of his energy, leaving him tired during his classes. The small amount of energy left over was draining out of him with each passing second. I wish I understood what I'm missing, he thought. Hopefully, the answer will come soon. As the last bit of his energy left him, Kuroko closed his eyes.

"Class!" The teacher's voice jerked Kuroko awake. He jolted upright and focused his attention to the front of the room. His heart stopped. A girl stood next to his teacher, probably a new student. The girl was rather small, maybe a few centimeters shorter than himself. Her straight, light brown hair fell down to just above her waist, and her eyes were simply beautiful. They were a warm shade of deep chocolate brown lit by kindness and pure innocence. They drew Kuroko in with an invisible force, inviting him to pursue her. As he fell deeper and deeper into the girl’s eyes, his thoughts began to trail off until he was left staring at her.

The teacher's voice cut through Kuroko's trance with the sharpness of a knife. "This is our new student!"

The new girl waved to the class and offered a small smile. Gasps spread throughout the room, ranging from mildly shocked to outright disbelief.

"Whoa!!! When did she get there?!"

    "Is she a ghost?!"

    "It's like she just appeared!!!"

Kagami flinched in his chair. "Oi, Kuroko!” he whispered over his shoulder, “She's just like you!"

I-I’m the only one who saw her, Kuroko thought. That only leaves one option, but that’s impossible...Could she have...misdirection? Besides Mayuzumi from Rakuzan, Kuroko thought he was the only one who remained invisible to the world. Throughout his entire life, he had remained a shadow, unknown to the untrained eye.  If he, a mere shadow, could see this girl, she most likely had misdirection. It would make sense for a shadow to be able to spot another shadow. But with such striking beauty, Kuroko found it hard to believe this girl could ever be invisible like himself.

    "Kuroko……....Kuroko…...Kuroko!"

Kuroko blinked. "Did you say something, Kagami-kun?"

"Quit staring at the new girl! What’s wrong with you?!"

"Kagami-kun, you know I don't understand you when you speak English."

    "I DON’T UNDERSTAND YOU NOW!!!"

"KAGAMI-SAN!!!” The teacher cut in, “Settle down!!" Her icy tone silenced the class within a matter of seconds.

    "S-sorry Taikutsu-sensei*," Kagami muttered.

Taikutsu-sensei glared at him for a moment, then turned her attention back to the new girl. "Please, tell us about yourself."

The girl took half a step forward. "Hello. My name is Harumi Mai. I like to read. Please, treat me well."

Taikutsu-sensei took a seat behind her desk and pulled out a seating chart. Kuroko's heart skipped a beat: there was an empty seat next to him. Please, Kuroko thought, please let her sit next to me. "Why don't you sit next to....Masami Aimi-san?" An amber-haired female across the room made a grande wave. Kuroko's face fell. How could things get any worse?

Taikutsu-sensei continued, "Since you are the newest student to Seirin, Kagami-san, would you be willing to give Harumi-san a tour of the school later today?"

He rubbed the back of his neck. "Uh, sure, Taikutsu-sensei."

Bang! Kuroko let his head fall and hit his desk. All hope was lost. Why did he have to say yes? he thought. Kuroko made a mental note to slip some ice cubes down the back of Kagami’s shirt later. Now, Kuroko would never be able to talk to Harumi-san, or befriend her, or ask her out…...He glanced up at Harumi quickly, then back down at his desk. With each passing moment, it became more clear. Kuroko had finally found who he was looking for: he was hopelessly in love with Harumi Mai.
