IMPACT [PART 3B]: Akashi Seijuro Fanfic

(A/N): italics = someone is thinking, emphasis on a word, or there’s a sound (ex.: Bang!)

      Akashi-san is Akashi Seijuro's father.

Sorry for the long (A/N)! Enjoy!

Then, out of the corner of his eye, Akashi-san noticed the edge of the picture frame sitting on his desk. When he looked up, he paused: he remembered this picture- it showed the full Akashi family. (A/N: Link to the picture: 41.media.tumblr.com/2a1c29da60…) The photograph was taken just before Seijuro's mother passed away. He, his wife, and his son were all taking a walk in the park that day as a family.  The walk had been his wife's idea- Akashi-san had never been very good at coming up with family activities.

Seijuro was so young in the picture. Akashi-san couldn't believe his son had grown up to be....The man paused. He barely knew his own son. He plays the violin very well, Akashi-san reasoned. He also plays the piano flawlessly…though…he did not learn those skills by choice….His eyes widened with the sudden realization. I...I forced Seijuro to learn those skills. I am not a bad father- Ultimately, I was preparing him for perfection, to lead a successful life, and to be a member of this family. I was helping him to become the young man I know he must be- Akashi-san stopped. Who his son must be? What about who his son is? Does Seijuro enjoy the skills he learns, he thought. Are there skills he prefers over others? What if he loathes the skills I have made him learn?....I only know what he’s learned, not what his interests, hobbies, friends, thoughts....I don’t know my own son…...I don’t know my own son...…

Finally, the frustration that was building up inside of him suddenly exploded. "I don't know my own son!!!" he yelled, his voice echoing through empty halls. The realization hit Akashi-san hard- How could he not know his own son? He started to panic- Seijuro was in the hospital gravely injured, and possibly close to death. Akashi-san had wasted valuable years of being with his son on business matters. He could have built a stronger relationship with his one and only son, but he had chosen to abandon Seijuro, forcing him to do task after task to fill the empty hours between them. He was a terrible father.

Before he descended into despair, he felt a small surge of hope in his heart. I-I can still see him in the hospital, he thought. I can still make this right. I have to see Seijuro. I have to see my son. If he didn't act now, he would never know who his son was. Akashi-san stuffed his cell phone into his pocket and ran out of his office, leaving his work to be finished at a later time....
